Longueville District
Shooting and Conservation Partnership (LDSCP)
Longueville District Shooting and Conservation Partnership (LDSCP) was formed as a partnership between enthusiastic shooters, farmers, hoteliers and country sportsmen. This was to redevelop an old shoot and provide renewable quality shooting in the North Cork/Blackwater region.
The shoot is based on the previously existing Longfield's estate and their historically renowned shoot which is now owned by the O'Callaghan family and surrounding farms.
The land consists of traditionally farmed fields with old grass meadows, rushy bog fields, mature oak woods (wide rides), new plantations of oak and spruce, and recently planted orchards (cider producing). Duck decoys are a unique attraction and though they have fallen into disrepair, they are presently being rejuvenated by the shoot. The duck decoys date from 1750 and 1875.
Shooting parties are limited to 8 guns (2 parties of 4), with local enthusiasts acting as beaters. Shooting is primarily over Springer Spaniels. Uniquely for shoots, we cater for the novice shooter. This encompasses gun etiquette and clay pigeon shooting in the morning and supervised live bird shooting in the afternoon. Conservation and carrying capacity of insect life, songbirds and other bird species has vastly increased with land, water and wood management. Interested parties including ornithologists, botanists, entomologists and student groups access the much improved eco-system by special arrangement. Important information regarding Gun Licenses.
Pheasants on the shoot are demanding birds, high fliers and a cross of several species which include Chinese Ringneck, Manchurian/Ringneck cross, Jumbo Ringneck pheasants of which thousands are released annually. Increasing numbers of duck and partridge being released. The landscape is enticing to migratory species also with woodcock, snipe, teal, mallard and pigeon available in varying numbers. The shoot boasts one of the oldest duck decoys in Ireland.
Safety is of the greatest importance, including the safety of shooters, beaters, farmers, dogs and farm animals. We require, in keeping with our policy of conservation, that all cartridges used on the shoot are biodegradable (can be purchased on site).
LDSCP is fully insured through the Countryside Alliance, including indemnity to landowners. Guests, however, are required to supply evidence of Public Liability insurance.
